Helping People & Reptiles Share the Landscape
Updated: Oct 21

About the Project
Ontario is home to many incredible reptile species that play an important role in healthy ecosystems. Unfortunately, some of these species are now considered at risk due to habitat loss, road mortality, and negative interactions with humans driven by fear or misinformation.
Through the Species at Risk Stewardship Program (SARSP), Blazing Star Environmental is launching Sharing Ontario with Reptiles — a conservation outreach initiative focused on helping people better understand reptiles at risk and how we can safely coexist with them.
Why This Matters
This project focuses on two important Ontario species: the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake and the Blanding’s Turtle. While these reptiles are often misunderstood, they are valuable parts of Ontario’s ecosystems and face increasing pressures as human activity and development continue to grow.
Our goal is to share science-based information in a way that feels approachable and practical while encouraging conversations around coexistence and conservation.
What We’ll Be Sharing
Through this blog and our social media platforms, we’ll be sharing:
Facts about Ontario reptile species
Common myths and misconceptions
Tips for safely interacting with wildlife
Conservation efforts happening across Ontario
We hope this information helps people feel more informed and confident when encountering reptiles in the environment.
A Shared Landscape
At Blazing Star Environmental, we believe protecting species at risk and supporting responsible development can go hand in hand.
By sharing knowledge, encouraging awareness, and promoting practical solutions, we hope to support a future where both people and wildlife can continue to thrive across Ontario’s landscapes.
This project is led by Blazing Star Environmental with funding from the Government of Ontario through the Species at Risk Stewardship Program (SARSP).
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to share more about these fascinating species and the small actions that can make a big difference for conservation.
Follow along as we explore how we can all play a role in protecting Ontario’s species at risk while continuing to build and grow responsibly.
